The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
