The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.

Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments

They secured England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”

What Would Lure Him Back?

Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a car crash alongside his brother this past summer.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
