Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
