Homages Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he finally felt able to express about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the production, adding that he cannot recall "one day without joy".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Principles that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a different essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A court order issued a security hold on the investigation to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the killings, public figures shared divergent comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing provocative statements that were met with immediate backlash by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the detractors recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the comments as "disappointing" and implied they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate ought to have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the death was made.
