Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial ATC System Failure
Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others experiencing delays.
Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.
"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," the statement added.
Root of the Disruption
Officials linked the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are cleared.
