Colts Battle Atlanta Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10

Hello, football enthusiasts. How are you? Everything good I trust on this excellent early start to week 10 coming straight outta Deutschland. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (7-2) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the initial in the nation’s capital.

Pregame Highlights

As sparkly jackets go that is an real standout from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.

Well, the Colts have won the toss and have elected to receive. Daniel Jones and company will be setting up shortly. Will the QB bounce back after a difficult performance in their last game?

Not to be outdone the vocalist performing the Star Spangled Banner has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the German anthem. Elegant.

Opening Period Action

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

And we're off! And we have early drama after the Colts running back catches a screen pass, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right then loses the ball … only for his center to recover the fumble with the recovery. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Still scoreless at 10:51

And the drama keeps coming as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a quick pass from Jones. On the play before the turnover on downs Jessie Bates put a massive tackle on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!

Touchdown Recap

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter

Did Kyle Pitts just drop a touchdown? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That moment reflects the first round pick’s career to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.

An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley misses the point after attempt. Oops.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. Drake London makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. The Falcons take the lead.

Additional Tenth Week Games

And for afters, the full slate starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) New York Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
